Carmel Schools Capital Project 2018 Making An Informed Decision

I recently attended Carmel’s Board of Education meeting so that I can be better informed about the capital project prior to our upcoming vote.  What I found is that many people had the same questions I did and some I had not thought of.  The board answered questions as they were asked.    We received clarification and a better explanation on how the cost affects us on our taxes if approved.  What if this is not approved what is plan b?  There is no plan b the repairs will have to be included in future budgets.   We were also reminded that a lot of research went into this proposal with architects and advisers.  One attendee voiced her opinion stating Carmel schools are great and would we want to continue to improve our schools for an additional $6.33 per year (estimate based on a home value of $350,000) or would we want to possibly pay more down the road?.

Attending the meeting was enlightening as i learned that most/all board members are Carmel residents and have kids attending or have attended Carmel schools and would like to give back to the community.  They volunteer their time to be on the board and work together for the kids and the community.

Opinions were voiced towards Mr. Curzio a board member who has in the past voiced his opinion on how the capital project was presented to  Carmel residents that were not pleasant.  However, because of Mr. Curzio’s voicing his opinions in the past resulted in  better information this year albeit still containing some gaps.    We all want to better our community,  its where we live and where we thrive so if you have a question on the project please reach out and ask so that it will help you make the right decision for you.

Additional questions can be sent to info@carmelschools.org or to Mr. Eric Stark, Assistant Superintendent at 845-878-2094 ext 215.

Voting takes place Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
